Investigate police leak of Habib address, Scully told
Greens MP Lee Rhiannon has called on Police Minister Carl Scully to take disciplinary action against any police officers found to have leaked Mamdouh Habib's address to the media.
"If the police leaked Mamdouh Habib's address to the media, then by this action they have exposed him and his family to the risk of break-in, harassment and assault," Ms Rhiannon said.
"Mr Habib is not charged with any crime. He is recovering from three years of unlawful incarceration, including torture. The police actions are both insensitive and incompetent.
"The media is already in full breach of Mr Habib's privacy, and if a leak has occurred then the police have only made this worse.
"The Greens support Mr Habib's lawyer Stephen Hopper in laying a complaint with the Ombudsman. But it's Mr Scully who should take full responsibility: he must investigate the complaint and make sure it doesn't happen again," Ms Rhiannon said.
